Grand Opening of St. Thomas More's New Temporary Portable School

St. Thomas More School is excited to mark the grand opening of its new temporary portable school. This milestone represents a new chapter for the school community, one filled with optimism, growth, and faith. 

The ceremony was a momentous occasion, marked by a series of heartfelt and meaningful moments. Emceed by Grade 11 student Alexa Bjornson, it began with an opening prayer and a powerful rendition of "Oh Canada" by Grade 8 students, accompanied by Ms. Noulette on the piano. 

The ceremony continued with a blessing from Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Grouard-McLennan Gerard Pettipas, before transitioning into a series of speeches.

Hope for the Future

Board Chair Kelly Whalen addressed the crowd with heartfelt gratitude, highlighting the significance of this new space as more than just a classroom. "This new space is a symbol of our unwavering commitment to providing the best possible environment for our students, our staff, and our entire community," said Whalen. He reflected on the connection between Advent’s message of hope and the opportunities this temporary school provides for growth, transformation, and a brighter future for all. "Let us continue to move forward together with joy and hope, knowing that this new temporary portable school is a place where the foundation for tomorrow’s future is being built."

STM Alumni Joe Kramer

St. Thomas More Alumni Joe Kramer took to the podium and expressed his thanks to everything involved for making this happen, and keeping the Catholic Education option alive and well for Fairview.

Donation for the Playground

As part of the celebration, Secretary-Treasurer Zachary Silva announced a generous donation from MODUS Structures towards the school’s playground. "This significant contribution will go a long way in providing our students with a safer, more exciting space to play and grow," Silva said. A giant check for $50,000 was presented by President & CEO Allan Willms to further enhance the school’s playground area, ensuring that students will have even more opportunities for play and physical activity in the future.

A Community Effort

Superintendent Betty Turpin also took to the podium, acknowledging the collaborative effort that made the opening possible. "This marks a significant milestone in our efforts to ensure that every student receives the best educational experience," she said. She praised the behind-the-scenes efforts of the Board of Trustees, Central Office staff, the maintenance crew, and the tech department for their dedication in making the new space a reality. "Your attention to detail, adaptability, and willingness to go above and beyond have made all the difference," Turpin expressed, emphasizing the teamwork that continues to propel the school forward.

Turpin also recognized the staff at St. Thomas More for their unwavering commitment to students. "Through it all, your good attitudes have been a shining example of what it means to be a community of care and support," she said. Their flexibility and positivity have allowed the school to transition smoothly and continue providing an exceptional learning environment for students.
